Character and Citizenship Education (CCE)
Character and Citizenship Education
Anchored on the school’s core values of Self-Directedness, Harmony, Integrity, ResilieNce and Excellence, Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) in Serangoon Secondary School engages students in the cognitive, behavioural, and affective domains (i.e. knowing, doing, and being). By facilitating student engagement and voice, and empowering students to derive personal meaning from school activities, we equip our StaRs with the knowledge, skills, values, and social emotional competencies, and develop character and citizenship dispositions that enable them to grow holistically and learn for life, empowering our students to be Resilient Individuals, Passionate Learners, Active Contributors.
Our CCE efforts have been featured on MOE’s Schoolbag website!
CCE 2021
To help our students adapt to disruptions in a rapidly evolving world, the knowledge, skills, and values taught in CCE need to remain current and relevant. CCE 2021 has been developed with this in mind, to help our students navigate the realities of their time.
With CCE 2021, we aim to develop in our students
-
Good Character: Have a sound moral compass, a strong sense of right and wrong, think critically and ethically, be discerning in judgement, take responsibility for choices and actions, be caring towards others, and strive for excellence.
-
Resilience and Social-Emotional Well-Being: Have a balanced sense of self, form healthy relationships, be resilient when faced with challenges, find meaning in life, and have a sense of gratitude and appreciation.
-
Active Citizenship: Develop a strong national identity based on a sense of belonging to the nation, a sense of hope in themselves and the future, an awareness of the reality of Singapore’s vulnerabilities and constraints, and the will to act on improving the lives of others and building a future for our nation.
-
Future Readiness: Have a sense of purpose in life, develop the dispositions of adaptability and lifelong learning so as to be able to navigate education and career pathways purposefully and take on the challenges of the future, including the world of work.
Mental Health Education and Student Well-Being
Through CCE lessons and discussions of relevant contemporary issues, Serangoon StaRs are equipped with knowledge and skills to manage their mental health. Teachers regularly converse one-to-one with students, and students also have access to School Counsellors. The Class Committee, Peer Support Leaders, and a buddy system in every class and CCA further supports the mental well-being of our Serangoon StaRs. Student Development Experiences such as the signature cohort programmes and initiatives such as the Class Bingo are platforms that help students deepen their bond and engagement with the school community, further strengthening their mental resilience.
